fourth on main

Living in a small town is just the best on the fourth.  Our town does (one of the best) fireworks shows on the third, followed by a parade on the fourth.  Rolling down main street is a nod to the slower pace of life here; tractors, old-fashioned cars, marching bands, and horses.  My kids usually collect more candy from this parade than they do at halloween.  I absolutly love it and sharing my lawn with some of our best friends!

Also I have been continuing to make bread from this book.  Here is one of my whole wheat blueberry and strawberry loaf – I cut up the rest on the holiday and made some of the best french toast with it!  Now that we have a break from the heat I may need to whip up another batch.

I love your pics of the fourth, Kate. It makes my heart ache with longing for that dear small town life. It is a beautiful gem!
